#Copyright practice - why register or record your copyright?
One client who had asked us to help with her patent filing in China before asked one very interesting question about copyright the other day. Quoting the exact same words: "You said that copyright is right there - exists from the date of creation of the workpiece, then why register my copyright in the governmental department or office?" The statement in the above sentence is correct to a certain extent. Even if you do not have a copyright certificate in a copyright dispute, you can still defend your rights as long as you can prove your creation of the work. But if there is a better and more convenient way, why not use it? For example, I'm Allen, with or without an ID card, I'm still Allen. But with an ID card, in many different situations, I can directly use it to prove myself, without providing a lot of material to do so, saving time and effort. So why not? Some people may say that if the information provided by the applicant in the copyright registration is false, then the certificate obtained should also be false. This will still generate possible rights disputes in the future. In this case, I would like to say that even ID cards can be fake, and we just can't understand one new thing through extreme examples. The copyright certificate can be used in online sales platforms, customs records, etc. If this is really helpful to your business operations, then again, why not? So how will you answer this interesting question under your IP jurisdiction? Are you going to use the legal terms or down-to-earth method to answer? Would love to see your ideas in below comment box. #ip #copyright #ipchina #intellectualproperty
